Contact assistance in teaching swimming to children with autism spectrum disorders

Title: Contact assistance in swimming lessons for children with autism spectrum disorder Objectives: The aim of the study was to map the issue of contact assistance in swimming lessons for children with autism spectrum disorder. The intention was to obtain information about the use of contact assistance from organisations or swimming schools that deal with the issue of contact assistance in swimming lessons through a questionnaire. On the basis of the data obtained, we then created a pictorial material on the form of contact assistance in swimming lessons for this population. Methods: The research was conducted using a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. A questionnaire survey was used to obtain the necessary information about the use of contact assistance in swimming lessons for children with ASD in the Czech Republic. Participant observation was used in direct participation in swimming lessons. A pictorial material was created from this lesson. Using non- participant observation, analysis of the pictorial material was carried out. Results: From the results of the research it is evident that the use of contact assistance in swimming lessons for children with ASD is justified. Comparison of swimming education in the Czech Republic and selected European countries

The aim of this thesis is to provide information on the differences in swimming education between the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Norway and Sweden using available sources and a survey. The thesis focuses on the comparison of swimming education programmes in the main and primary schools of the surveyed countries, including the levels of teaching and the diagnosis of swimming level. Furthermore, the thesis examines differences in the methodology and didactics of swimming instruction, not only in schools but also in swimming clubs. The thesis also provides information on the compulsory education of teachers, coaches and swimming instructors in the countries studied. Swimming plan aiming at tuition of school-aged children - basic swimming skills

Title: Swimming plan aiming at tuition of school-aged children - basic swimming skills Objective: The aim of the work is to create teaching material for a swimming school focused on practicing basic swimming skills (BSS). Methods: The research sample was evaluated in the first lesson to determine their initial skills using a standardized scale. Exercises and activities related to the topic of the work were included in subsequent swimming lessons. Observations and insights were drawn from their practical use for further application. A final output evaluation was conducted in the last lesson. The data from both evaluations were finally compared using the arithmetic mean (x ) and the median (Med(x)). Results: The output values showed improvement in almost all students. Out of thirty-eight participants, ten students achieved the maximum number of points, while another ten lost only one or two points. Title: Communication between instructor and student in swimming lessons for persons with visual impairment Objectives: The goal of this bachelor`s thesis was analysing the communication between instructor and a student with visual impairment in swimming lessons. The knowledge gained will contribute to the objectification of ideas about the activity of the instructor and his communication during swimming lessons for persons with visual impairment. Methods: In this these, we used a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. The observation was used when the main researcher of the these attended the swimming lesson of person with visual impairment. Data collection was done through video and audio recording. An analysis of these recordings was made using non-participant observation. Subsequent coding and evaluation of the swimming lesson was made with the method of modified analysis of didactic interaction (MADI). Furthermore, the method of interviewing was used with a person with visual impairment. Title: The Spectrum of Teaching Styles in preschool swimming lessons Objectives: The aim of the study is to compare the command didactic style that is traditionally used in swimming lessons for preschool children with reciprocal didactic style and inclusion style. Bachelor thesis verifies the possibility of using selected teaching styles in preparatory swimming lessons. It also evaluates the effectiveness of these selected teaching styles. Methods: In my thesis I used the method of observation. Observations of reactions of children to reciprocal didactic style and inclusion style were registered after each examined lesson to logs that were then analysed. To assess the effectiveness of the selected teaching styles were used the level of swimming test, which was conducted for each of the subjects at the beginning and end of the research. Results: The results show that children accepted the reciprocal didactic style and didactic inclusion style. It took some time before they got used to the reciprocal didactic style while the inclusion didactic style was accepted immediately. These two teaching styles were popular for children. Objectives: Application of the structured learning by the concept of common preparatory and basic swimming lessons for children with autism spectrum disorder. Presentation and evaluation of nine case studies and subsequent implementation of policy for teaching swimming to children with autism spectrum disorder. Methods: Analysis of specialized literature, case studies, surveys, interviews, scaling observation and statistics method. Results of the work: Methods of the structured learning support and facilitate the implementation of standard swimming lessons for children with autism spectrum disorder. The case studies confirm the effectiveness of our taught realized swimming lessons. The topic of this thesis is the comparison of individual educational methods at swimming schools. Its main focus is on the preschool children group. In the theoretical part I will be focusing on the characteristics of swimming and its significance for the human body. The focus on the preschool children group consist of covering the various methods of swimming techniques from a teaching standpoint, usage of swimming tools and their age peculiarities. The practical part of the thesis will cover the differences between educational methods at three different swimming schools with the use of swimming tools and the evaluation of the qualification level of swimming instructors. Swimming instruction of mentally handicapped individual and his/her integration - Down's syndrome

The subject of the diploma thesis concerns the integration of mentally handicapped individuals into the group of standard population in the course of preparatory training of swimming. The aim of the thesis is the evaluation and charting of the problem of the Down syndrome and on the basis of the results the proposal and verification of the conception of integration of the handicapped person. The theoretical part of the diploma thesis is based upon the characteristics of the specific traits of mentally handicapped individuals, it explains the terms of the Down syndrome, it explains the integration of mentally handicapped individuals, and it informs about the swimming as a means of integration into the society. The practical part of the diploma thesis described the course of the research work, it characterizes the studied group of individuals, it includes the results of testing (Štochl, 2002) and it registers the acquiring of the respective aptitudes. The results are evaluated by verbal description as well as by the form of graphs. Didactic interaction between teacher and child in preparatory swimming

Title: Didactic interaction between teacher and child in preparatory swimming lessons. Objects: The object of this thesis was to describe and analyze the interaction profiles of two kindergarten teachers. Both teachers have many years of teaching experience of preparatory swimming lessons with children 3 to 4 years old. At the same time the aim was to contribute to the objectification of ideas about the specific didactic interaction in the physical learning in the water. Methods: The method of participant observation of two kindergarten teachers with many years of teaching experience was used at this thesis. The data collection was realized by taking a video. Processing and evaluating of the video followed using a modified analysis of didactic interaction method. The method of questioning was also used for the observed teachers. Results: According to our results the most common form of behavior of two selected teachers during the lessons was instruction. The most common of one of our selected teacher was using notification. Title: Integration of children with special needs into the swimming lessons in the district of Louny Objectives: The thesis analyses the current state of integration of children with special needs into the swimming lessons in swimming schools in the district of Louny. Methods: In the theoretical part of thesis was used research of literature in the field of people with special needs, integration and swimming lessons. The research was conducted by interviewing, the form of survey. Analysis method was used for sorting the information which were obtained, synthesis method was used in their summary. Results: Integration of children with special needs into the swimming lessons in the district of Louny is possible. Children with mental and physical disabilities are included into swimming lessons. These children have the opportunity to use hours of swimming lessons created specifically for them. This, however, offers only one of the three swimming schools.
